about the work of Evelyn Owen.

Biography

I was born in 1961 and grew up on a dairy farm, north of Taree at Ghinni Ghinni. The middle child, with an older sister Sue, who now lives in Armidale and younger brother, Robert.

During my early years I enjoyed being creative in art class, but had shown little interest in photography until 1978, when in Year 11 at High School,we had a massive flood that rose to the farmhouse window sills. I grabbed the family compact camera and started documenting the event.
I so enjoyed capturing the moment that it prompted me to pursue photography at the Sydney CAE, while studying for my Bachelor of Arts. I majored in Photography,Design and Fibre Art.
I have continued my love of photography traveling all over Australia and to different parts of the world, whilst working in the retail industry. I have extended my creative experience to draping mannequins with fabric, visual
merchandising and styling in the furniture/homewares area, wedding photography, designing rugs and being resident artist for VIP nights with Domayne.

But photography has always been a constant element in my life, creating images of nature, from up close and personal, to panoramic vistas. Much of my spare time has been spent exploring the New England area, with its diverse and spectacular range of photographic subjects. I have come to love this region and hope that my images convey some of the emotion that I feel when capturing the light and colour, as it plays across the scene.
