about the work of Mark Price.

Biography

SURFACE TENSION - a scientific term to describe the property of a liquid behaving as if it had a weak elastic skin.

The surface tension of water gives rise to subtle and unexpected shapes and forms, especially when caught by camera. The forces causing this property can help to give rise to some of the amazing shapes, reflections and gorgeous patterns that we see in water as it pools, moves and falls in the natural environment.

I have felt compelled to attempt to capture the infinite array of shapes, colours and movement of water as it cascades, meanders, swirls, falls, or just stays perfectly still reflecting parts of the sky or surrounding environment. I find that the wonder and joy I feel when exploring our aquatic environment with camera in tow is something I experience with an intensity I find difficult to compare with other challenges I have explored so far.

I have had a keen interest in photography all my life. I completed a workshop with Toni Fuller in 1995, exploring all aspects of creative photography and also darkroom techniques. With the development of popular digital photography in the last decade or so, I have been able to pursue more challanges, experimenting and refining my technique.
