The Armidale Art Gallery provides a unique opportunity for local well-known and emerging artists to exhibit their work in one of Armidale’s premier locations.

Dedicated to stimulating and supporting the creativity of the New England’s regional arts community, the Armidale Art Gallery hosts a wide range of exhibits, showcasing original paintings, drawings, photography, prints, textiles, sculpture, pottery and jewellery. 

The Armidale Art Gallery provides a friendly, convenient and relaxed venue for a wide range of workshops, small group activities and events including artist talks and book launches.

The gallery is conveniently located right in the heart of Armidale’s shopping precinct and mall on Beardy Street.

A bit more about us

Operated by New England Art Society Inc. (NEAS), and situated at 149 Beardy St, Central Mall, Armidale.  NEAS is a not for profit community organisation dedicated to stimulating and supporting creativity in the New England regional arts community.  The gallery caters for NEAS members with a permanent display space for Painting, Sculpture, Pottery, Textiles, Jewellery and more.

The New England Art Society runs the  annual Armidale Art Prize and a Miniatures exhibition – It’s All a Matter of Scale and this year 2023 is planning a Waste to Art exhibition to encourage artists to reuse and recycle as part of their art practice.

Across December and January we present the Summer Show and Members Prize,  a members only  exhibition.

The Armidale Art Prize (AAP) began in 2009 and showcases a cross-section of diverse regional artists. The AAP has become the highlight of the Society’s year with a range of prizes for Painting, Photography, Sculpture/ Craft Art and the Daphne Young Works on Paper and a People’s Choice Award totaling $5,925.

A Forest Walk (A Two Styx Retreat Exhibition) – We walked the trails, we oohed and aahed at the views, stoked the fire, played cards, ate delicious food and discussed life and the environment at the Two Styx NEAS artist retreat last November. And we were each inspired by the wet and misty and the forays into the sunshine. From inspiration has come a variety of works and this exhibition shares a few of those with you. Artists with works in this exhibition are Sue-elle Fischer, Lorraine Kelleher, Maria Hitchcock and Tess Cullen.

Its All a Matter of Scale – An annual Exhibition on the Armidale Art Galleries calendar .

We encourage our members to create miniature works of excellence, and to encourage awareness and enjoyment of miniature works of art. Works may include a range of media such as watercolour, oil or acrylic as well as drawing, printmaking, mixed media and 3D .
